Fremont Lake and Half Moon Lake

The most accessible lakes to skate are Fremont Lake and Half Moon Lake. To skate Fremont Lake, take Fremont Lake Road and follow it for 3.2 miles to the turnoff. Turn left and take the left fork for Sandy Beach and continue past Lakeside Lodge to the Lower Boat Dock parking lot. To skate Half Moon Lake, drive ~7 miles from Pinedale on Fremont Lake Road and turn right at the Half Moon Lake sign. Stay left on the access road and it will take you to the public boat ramp near Half Moon Lake Lodge.

Typical Outdoor-Ice Conditions

Area lakes typically freeze to 17" thick and more, plenty to hold the weight of skaters and snowmobiles. If you're unfamiliar with the current lake conditions, ask the Forest Service, Game & Fish Office, or the Lakeside marina for more information. Take caution at all times and watch for lake overflow, wet areas and open water and never leave children unsupervised.
